This Fruity Power Smoothie is a great way to start your day or any time you are looking for a burst of energy. It is so easy to make and a healthy drink for you!
It's the most wonderful time of the year ... for smoothies! They seem to be all the rage now and I'm jumping on the bandwagon with these high calcium, fruit infused, and tasty power smoothies. These would be a perfect way to start your day or any time you need a pick-me-up. Just whip out your blender, add all the ingredients, and give it a whirl. In under a minute, you will be fueling your body with a healthy drink and ready to tackle the world!
Besides giving you this tasty recipe, I'm also going to chat a bit on why it is important to take care of your body, especially those bones! So you might have noticed that I mentioned it is high in calcium and there is a good reason for that. Lately I have been thinking about bone density, yep I know a weird topic, but recently two really good friends have had broken bones. Both were kind of freak accidents but it's true as we get older that it is important to make sure we are getting enough calcium and exercising. On the intake side, I used OJ fortified with calcium and along with the yogurt and powdered milk to provide about 300 milligrams (about ⅓ of recommended daily allowance).
The other thing you can do is exercise for 30 minutes each day (Ok, I'm personally working on this one!) Weight-bearing exercises force your body to resist gravity and stimulate cells in the body that make new bone. Strength training causes the muscles to pull on the bone and results in increased bone strength. Some ideas are walking, running, aerobics, and lifting weights. Did you also know that some habits might contribute to bone loss? I recently found out that drinking cola type drinks may prevent calcium from being absorbed in the body. Oh boy, I can see I'm going to need to change some habits this year! Who's with me?

Love smoothies! And I also got into strength training last year. Haha It wasn't enough to just lift heavy cast iron pans while cooking in the kitchen. 🙂 Have a healthy week.
