These peanut free Leprechaun Muddy Buddies are magically delicious with mini shamrock marshmallows. Sure to be a hit for young and old alike!
I've become a label reader since so many foods are processed on equipment that also processes peanuts. This can include bread, cereal, chocolate (but not all), etc. Thank goodness foods today are labeled so well.
Emily is 3 ½ years old and she has been taught to say "I have a peanut allergy and am allergic" and knows that she should ask before she is given a treat to ask what is in it. When she goes to birthday parties, her parents bring a special treat for her since many bakery cakes could contain peanuts or share equipment. It's not easy but I'm glad they have been educating her at such a a young age and her environment now is very controlled.
This past weekend we went up to do some babysitting and wanted to bring a treat that I thought she would love. These buddy muddies are made with almond butter instead of peanut butter and baking chocolate from a brand called Enjoy Life Foods. They turned out perfect and her little face lit up when she knew she was getting a special treat. She said "Nana, I never had muddy buddies and they are so good!" So glad to make her happy. Her mom did another teaching moment and explained that it is OK to have these from home or at Nana's only.
And being the good Nana, I bought a box of Lucky Charms with Shamrock Marshmallows and picked the marshmallows out to give it a St. Patrick's Day festive look since M&Ms wouldn't be food safe.
Fun snack!

Sad this has Almond butter which most likely cause anyone who is allergic to peanuts to have issues. What else do you think could be used instead.

We are lucky that Em is not allergic to almonds.... my friend whose son has an allergic to peanuts and tree nuts uses Sun Butter. she just mentioned this to me. Perhaps you could try that.
